New Radicals Release First New Song in 28 Years for Rom-Com

New Radicals, the group behind the nineties anthem “You Get What You Give,” have returned with their first new original song in nearly 28 years. The track, titled “One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)”, is featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming rom-com One Night Only.

The film itself centers around searching for love on the least romantic night of the year and is slated for an August 7 release. A portion of the soundtrack dropped recently, including the New Radicals track, King Princess’ cover of the disco classic “Love Is in the Air,” and a preview of Este Haim’s film score.

The Return of Gregg Alexander

“One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)” marks the first original tune from the Gregg Alexander-fronted band since the release of their 1998 album Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too. Alexander disbanded the group the following year.

Post-Breakup Production and Recent Reunions

Alexander remained active in the industry as a songwriter and producer. During the band’s long dormancy, he co-wrote notable hits like Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dance Floor,” Santana and Michelle Branch’s “Game of Love,” and Adam Levine’s Oscar-nominated track “Lost Stars.”

The group finally reunited in 2021 when Alexander, longtime collaborator Danielle Brisebois, and touring musicians performed at Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration parade. They also co-wrote a song for a Kamala Harris campaign video in 2024.

New Music and Modern Releases

In recent months, the revived lineup has revisited Alexander’s past songwriting credits. They rerecorded “Lost Stars” and “Murder on the Dance Floor” in 2024. Last month, they also stepped in for Santana on Branch’s rerecording of “The Game of Love.”

However, the new rom-com contribution stands as the first entirely original piece of music under the New Radicals moniker in decades.

Megadeth have officially lined up their return to the UK for the first time in 11 years, marking the latest extension of their farewell tour. Though the thrash metal band announced plans for a final tour nearly a year ago, there is still no end in sight for the run, which will carry the band into 2027 for their first headline shows since 2015.

Before hitting British shores, Megadeth remains busy on the road with a current North American stint, followed by a trip Down Under in November.

The 2027 UK and European Itinerary

The upcoming UK stretch kicks off on March 9 at The O2 in Belfast. From there, the band will hit cities across the UK throughout the month before crossing over into continental Europe for a string of dates spanning from March 21 to April 13.

British and European fans looking to secure tickets can take advantage of a presale starting at 9 am local time on August 6, with the general sale following on August 7 at 10 am.

Looking Ahead

The tour extension comes as no real surprise; frontman Dave Mustaine previously noted last year that the band’s final rodeo could stretch up to five years. At the same time, Mustaine acknowledged the realities of life and death, stating that he does not want to be one of those guys playing until his 80s and needs to take good care of himself.

This farewell trek serves as the vehicle for Megadeth’s recent string of projects, including their final self-titled album released in January and the accompanying documentary Behind the Mask. Meanwhile, rumors continue to circulate among fans regarding a potential greatest hits album on the way shortly, though no official announcement has yet been made.
