Robert Plant Revives 1969 Led Zeppelin Track on US Tour

Robert Plant has officially hit the road for a US tour, marking the autumn run with his acoustic group Saving Grace. Opening the tour on September 18th at The Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri, the former Led Zeppelin singer delivered a surprise for fans by resurrecting a song missing from his live repertoire for nearly seven years.

Saving Grace Tour Opens in St. Louis

Plant is touring alongside Saving Grace, with whom he released an album of the same name last September, with a digital release shortly arriving. While the St. Louis opening night featured a rotation of covers and a few familiar touchstones, Plant started the evening by performing two of his own solo tracks: ‘Down to the Sea’ and ‘Win My Train Fare Home (If I Ever Get Lucky)’.

From there, the set moved into Led Zeppelin territory with a rendition of ‘Ramble On’. The performance leaned into traditional and acoustic interpretations, featuring the traditional song ‘As I Roved Out’ alongside Brother Claude Ely’s ‘There Ain’t No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down’.

The Return of a 1969 Classic

The night’s biggest talking point came right before the encore. Plant delivered a performance of ‘Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You’—a traditional tune made famous by Joan Baez and famously covered by Led Zeppelin in 1969. Though Plant frequently performed the song in past musical outfits, it had been absent from his live sets since October 2019. The revival continued as he played it again the following night in Kansas City.

Following the first two nights, the tour continues across the states throughout September and October. The schedule pushed forward on September 22nd at the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
