Tony Iommi Reveals He Was Asked To Write Theme For New Shaun the Sheep Movie
Black Sabbath’s legendary guitarist Tony Iommi could have brought a heavy metal edge to the screen after being approached to write the theme music for the latest installment in the animated franchise, Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom. Ultimately, the collaboration never materialized because the guitarist simply had too much on his plate.
Speaking to Planet Rock, Iommi was asked about the most bizarre thing he had ever worked on during his career. "Apart from Sabbath you mean? I was asked to do Shaun the Sheep as well. I didn’t do that!" he said.
"They were doing a movie and they wanted some theme music for it. But no, we’d got too much on. I’d done the Robbie thing and trying to do my own album, then the William Shatner thing. That’s enough for now!"
A Packed Schedule and Future Projects
When the request came in last year, Iommi was deeply immersed in several other endeavors. Alongside working on a track with Robbie Williams and preparing to collaborate with William Shatner on a heavy metal project, he was also focusing on his own upcoming solo album, From The Dark. Juggling those commitments left him without the capacity to get involved in the animation franchise.
Though he joked that he wouldn’t rule out a similar project down the line, adding, "it’ll be Peppa Pig next."
Black Sabbath’s Born Again Tapes Recovered
During the same conversation, Iommi touched upon Black Sabbath’s controversial 1983 album Born Again, which featured Ian Gillan on vocals. The record has long been criticized by fans and Gillan alike for its production quality, but Iommi confirmed that plans are officially underway to remix the album.
"Yes, there is a plan," Iommi revealed. "To be honest, we couldn’t find those tapes for a long time. They disappeared. But they were in some record company storage. And anyway, we’ve gotten them back and they were transferred. So they are ready to start work on."
