1952 At Atlantic Records in New York, Ahmet Ertegun began recording 21-year-old Ray Charles, who cut four songs including “The Sun’s Gonna Shine Again.”

2003 Johnny Cash died at 71. The Man in Black was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and recorded landmark live albums at Folsom and San Quentin prisons.
2007 Surviving Led Zeppelin members announced a one-night reunion at London’s O2 Arena to honor Ahmet Ertegun; more than 20 million people sought tickets.
