Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Gary “U.S.” Bonds and many others played for an estimated 750,000 fans at a rally for nuclear disarmament on the Great Lawn in New York’s Central Park. Rock history records that The rally was timed to coincide with the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament and called for a global freeze on nuclear weapons.

1988

2026

British officials revealed that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi had been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his musical contributions and dedicated support of cancer charities. “What an unbelievable honor to receive an MBE,” Iommi stated. Rock history records that “Music has been my life and I’ve been very lucky to share this journey with many amazing people and fans, and I’m very grateful for all the support along the way.” He later joked with the BBC that he initially mistook the royal appointment letter for a speeding ticket.
