Foo Fighters to Open for AC/DC in St. Louis as Dave Grohl Calls It a ‘Dream Come True’
Foo Fighters are stepping up for a massive one-off stadium pairing, joining AC/DC as the support act for their upcoming concert in St. Louis, Missouri. The two rock heavyweights will share the stage at The Dome at America’s Center on September 8.
AC/DC have been traversing North America on their Power Up tour with support from The Pretty Reckless. While no reason was given for why The Pretty Reckless will step aside for the St. Louis date, they are still slated to appear at Rocklahoma’s 20th anniversary festival on September 6 and a headlining show in Indianapolis on September 9 in support of their album Dear God.
Dave Grohl Reflects on AC/DC’s Lifelong Impact
Taking to Instagram to confirm the news, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl shared an emotional reflection on how discovering AC/DC as an 11-year-old in Washington D.C. shaped his entire approach to music and performance.
Grohl recalled being introduced to the band through their 1980 concert film, Let There Be Rock, attending a screening at the Uptown Theater with his best friend, Larry Hinkle. “Watching from the edge of my seat the entire time, it was like nothing I had ever experienced before,” Grohl wrote. “How could five human beings conjure and possess such intensity onstage with just their instruments, and do so with such swagger, such groove….and such danger? My mind was blown. Melted. Changed forever.”
The frontman credited that initial cinematic spark with setting the bar for his own career behind the drum kit and on the microphone. “If it weren’t for this movie, this band, and their decades of timeless anthems, I surely would have approached my life in music from a different perspective,” he added. “All I have ever wanted was to someday live up to the awe inspiring fury of AC/DC, live onstage.”
A Historic One-Night-Only Pairing

For Grohl, the September gig marks a full-circle moment decades in the making. “And now, for the first time since that fateful night in 1980, my band Foo Fighters will share a stage with the gentlemen who are single handedly responsible for my determination to give every audience everything I have, every night,” he said. “This is literally a dream come true. So…..if you want blood….you’ve got it. Let there be fucking rock, St Louis.”
The booking serves as a convenient stop for Foo Fighters as well. It sits neatly between their scheduled appearance at Rock in Rio on September 4 and the resumption of their own tour dates.
