Apple Opens Music Venue Inside Pink Floyd Animals Power Station

Nearly 50 years after the Battersea Power Station appeared on the cover of Pink Floyd’s Animals, Apple has transformed the decommissioned building into a state-of-the-art live music venue. Apple Music Hall opens its doors inside the iconic London structure, which also serves as the site of the company’s European headquarters and new Apple Music Radio Studios.

The 600-capacity event space is designed to function as both an intimate live music venue and a high-end production facility. It features a 38-foot wide stage capable of hosting performances in a traditional setting or in the round, a 48-speaker spatial audio system, and 16 or more rigged cameras.

Artists can exit a performance with a Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix, and multicamera video straight from a single show. Honoring the building’s industrial history, the new venue incorporates heritage brickwork, fluted arches, and bronze balconies reminiscent of historic oriel windows.

A giant glass wall offers panoramic views of the concourse and the river beyond. “Apple’s deep love for music dates all the way back to the very beginning, from the launch of the iPod to the long-running iTunes Music Festival to the debut of Apple Music,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content, said in a statement.

“Today, with the opening of Apple Music Hall, we are once again taking an unprecedented step further in our commitment to artists and fans by supporting live music in ways only Apple can do,” Schusser added.

Political Backing and Past Apple Venues

The launch has drawn attention from UK officials. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy called the project “a huge vote of confidence in the UK as a global creative powerhouse.”

The move marks Apple’s return to major live event curation in London. The company previously ran the iTunes Festival—later rebranded as the Apple Music Festival—out of the Roundhouse beginning in 2007 before quietly bringing it to a close in 2017.

Performances at the new Apple Music Hall will be livestreamed globally. While the company has not yet announced a full roster of opening acts, fans can visit the venue’s website to sign up for updates and find ticket information.
