Sharon Osbourne Kept Black Sabbath in the Dark About Ozzy’s Fatal Health Risks
Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she intentionally kept doctors’ severe health warnings a secret from Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward ahead of Black Sabbath’s final concert.
The Final Bow at Villa Park
Speaking during a Q&A session with former Kerrang! and MOJO editor Phil Alexander at a London screening of the forthcoming documentary Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning, Sharon addressed the high-stakes reality behind the July 5, 2025 farewell show at Villa Park in Birmingham.
Weeks prior to the event, medical professionals in England strongly advised Ozzy against performing, warning that the physical strain would prove fatal. According to Sharon, Ozzy refused to back down, stating it was his choice to make even if it shortened his life. Ultimately, the decision was kept tightly under wraps.
“The guys didn’t know how sick Ozzy was. Nobody knew,” Sharon told the audience. “I mean, even my kids – we never told my kids. So nobody knew how sick he was.”
The star-studded charity event featured performances from heavy metal heavyweights including Metallica, Slayer, Guns N’ Roses, Mastodon, Tool, Anthrax, Lamb of God, and Gojira. Despite the underlying health risks, Sharon shared that her husband was ecstatic in the wake of the show’s success, remaining in high spirits for the remainder of his life.
Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning is scheduled for a global cinema release on October 28.
