Deep Purple Drop Heavy New Title Track Video From 2026 Album ‘SPLAT!’
English rock legends Deep Purple have released a brand-new music video for the title track of their latest studio album, SPLAT!, which arrived on July 3. Billed in a press release as “the heaviest Deep Purple album in many years,” the record marks another chapter in the band’s storied legacy.
The Return of Bob Ezrin and a Surprising Guest
The album benefits from the continued involvement of producer Bob Ezrin. A revered figure in the industry, Ezrin is celebrated for his classic work alongside acts like KISS, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, and Lou Reed. His partnership with Deep Purple spans more than a decade, stretching back to 2013’s Now What?!.
The record also features some unexpected star power. The track “Diablo” boasts a guest guitar appearance by Keith Urban—a pairing prompted by the simple logic of “because why not?”
Concept and 1970s Dynamic
Frontman Ian Gillan offered fans a compelling glimpse into the thematic and musical heart of SPLAT! in a recent statement. Gillan noted that the band feels “very much back in with material that is compatible with ‘Highway Star,’ ‘Smoke on the Water,’ and ‘Lazy.'” He added that the dynamics, balance, and fun of the music mirror what they created between 1969 and 1973, reflecting a current incarnation that channels a ’70s energy for the modern day.
Conceptually, the record moves away from a traditional apocalyptic narrative. Rather than treating the end as destruction, the album imagines it as a transformation, exploring the conclusion of humanity as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence based on themes dreamt up by Gillan.
Live Plans
The release of the title track video follows a massive North American tour alongside Kansas that wrapped up in the late summer. With their North American dates officially in the books, the band is set to round out the year with additional international gigs overseas.
