Skid Row Taps Broadway Star Justin Sargent as New Frontman, Drops Cover of The Who
Skid Row have found their next frontman, officially tapping Broadway veteran Justin Sargent to lead the New Jersey heavy metal veterans. Sargent steps into the role following months of conversations, rehearsals, and shared time with the band.
Sargent brings an extensive theatrical background to the table, having starred in Broadway productions including Rock of Ages, Bonnie & Clyde, and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. He has also performed extensively with Windborne Music on productions dedicated to the music of Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, and the Rolling Stones.
“I’ve been singing Skid Row songs for years, but never imagined I’d actually be joining the band!” Sargent shared in a statement. “It’s an incredible honour to be part of something with such a legendary history. The chemistry and energy we’ve found together over the past several months has been amazing.”
A Natural Fit Behind the Mic
Guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo noted that the band received numerous audition submissions from singers across the globe. However, Sabo explained that the moment Sargent walked into the room, his voice, attitude, and demeanor made it immediately clear he was the right fit.
Bassist Rachel Bolan echoed that sentiment, describing the new frontman as an instant addition to the fold. “Honestly, for me, it felt like he had been here from the beginning as soon as he walked in the room,” Bolan said. “He was one of us. A lifer. Then he sang with so much power and conviction, it blew me away.”
Sargent is Skid Row’s fifth lead singer since the 1996 departure of Sebastian Bach. He follows a lineage that includes Johnny Solinger, Tony Harnell, ZP Theart, and Erik Grönwall. Grönwall fronted the group for two years before stepping down in March 2024 to focus on his health following a battle with leukemia.
New Music and 2027 Tour Dates
To celebrate the partnership, Skid Row released a high-energy cover of The Who’s 1971 classic “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Produced by Nick Raskulinecz—who previously handled production on the band’s 2022 album The Gang’s All Here—the track will also see a limited-edition 7″ vinyl release on October 30.
Fans eager to see the new lineup live won’t have to wait much longer. Skid Row have rolled out a extensive run of 2027 tour dates, launching in March and including high-profile festival slots at Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple.
