Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar reuniting for the first time in 23 years
Keanu Reeves, renowned for his leading roles in blockbuster movies such as The Matrix, Bill & Ted, and John Wick, also had a career as a musician. Reeves played bass guitar in a grunge band called Dogstar during the 90s and early 2000s, who have recently reunited and are set to release new music for the first time after more than two decades.
The band’s last album, “Happy Ending,” was released in 2000. After reuniting last summer, Dogstar created an Instagram account last to announce their return, and since then, they have been posting updates of their time in the studio. The band has announced that they will release new tunes later this summer.
Dogstar, which features Keanu on bass guitar, expressed their gratitude on Instagram for the positive feedback they have received and said they were overwhelmed by the response. They also announced that they will be performing gigs after releasing new music this summer. The band is excited to share their new music with their loyal fans and said that it is their most satisfying and meaningful batch of songs to date.
Dogstar played at least one private show last year for those who made their new album possible. While many remember their set at Milwaukee Metal Fest in 1992, where they got “killed” on stage, Reeves fondly recalls their performance of a Grateful Dead cover while being heckled by the crowd.
“We played Milwaukee Metal Fest. Got killed,” Reeves remembered in a 2019 interview. “I think we played close to Murphy’s Law. Imagine. So we played a Grateful Dead cover, at Milwaukee Metal Fest.” – Keanu Reeves.
Dogstar’s debut album, “Our Little Visionary,” was released in 1996, making this summer’s album release a 27-year milestone. Over the years, several bands have opened for Dogstar and gone on to achieve great success, including Weezer and Rancid.

Stay tuned for more updates about their upcoming album and shows.
