Lynyrd Skynyrd Announce New Tour Dates Extending Into 2027

Lynyrd Skynyrd has added 10 new shows to their calendar, extending their touring schedule with six dates for later in 2026 and four additional stops set for mid-2027.

The group’s current summer run alongside Foreigner, titled the Double Trouble Double Vision tour, continues through the rest of the month. Following that trek, the band transitions into a run of headlining shows heading into the fall. That upcoming leg began in early September in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and was originally set to last until October, but recent scheduling updates have added a pair of shows on Nov. 13 and Nov. 15. Four additional dates were also wedged into the week of Sept. 16 through 24.

The Road Ahead and Live Traditions

Fans catching the band on these upcoming dates can expect the evening to close with a soaring rendition of “Free Bird,” a staple of their modern sets. Long-time frontman Johnny Van Zant initially did not sing the track when he joined the group, partly out of grief for his late brother Ronnie, who originally composed and sang it.

Johnny made his debut with Lynyrd Skynyrd on Sept. 23, 1987, at California’s Concord Pavilion for a six-week tour commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the plane crash that killed three members of the band, including Ronnie. What was meant to be a short commemoration turned into a permanent reunion.

During those early reunion shows, “Free Bird” was performed purely as an instrumental. Johnny famously told crowds at the time that he would not sing the song because only one man could, leaving audiences in the stands to fill in the lyrics. That changed when co-founder Gary Rossington urged him to take over vocal duties.

“When I first started with the band, it was a really cool thing to me, I thought, how the crowd sang it,” Johnny recalled to UCR. “Pero he said, ‘You know what? Your brother was a writer and a singer, and he wrote those words. He would want you to sing it.’ And from that point on, I’ve been singing it ever since.”

Aside from Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s remaining dates feature support and shared stages with a rotating cast of rock acts including Molly Hatchet, 38 Special, Foghat, Loverboy, Ten Years After, and 10cc, among others.

It has been one full year since the heavy metal world lost its founding agitator, Ozzy Osbourne. The Prince of Darkness passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, following his retirement performance at the blockbuster Back To The Beginning concert in his hometown of Birmingham.

The World Remembers the Prince of Darkness

In the twelve months since his death, Osbourne’s presence has continued to loom large across music and pop culture through a steady wave of tributes, award wins, posthumous releases, and high-profile commemorations.

In the immediate aftermath of his passing, condolences poured in from across the rock and alternative community. Elton John called him a “huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods,” while Billy Idol stated that Ozzy “embodied the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll,” and Robert Plant declared that he “changed the planet of rock.” Acts including Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Motörhead, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Kiss, Metallica, and Pantera all credited Osbourne as a major influence.

Not all responses were universally reverent, however; Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters sparked controversy and a public war of words with Ozzy’s son, Jack, after criticizing the late singer and Black Sabbath’s music.

A Legendary Farewell in Birmingham

Osbourne was honored on July 30, 2025, with a funeral procession through Birmingham that drew over 10,000 mourners. Led by the Bostin’ Brass Band playing Black Sabbath tunes, the hearse stopped at the Black Sabbath Bench before a private funeral was held at Ozzy’s Buckinghamshire residence. Attendees included his Black Sabbath bandmates Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward, alongside Elton John, James Hetfield, Zakk Wylde, Rob Zombie, Corey Taylor, and Marilyn Manson. A separate public memorial was hosted by London bar Helgi’s on August 2.

Ozzy Osbourne’s Legacy Lives On

Tributes quickly spilled onto the festival circuit. At Bloodstock 2025 in August, headliners Trivium performed “Symptom of the Universe” with Machine Head’s Robb Flynn. Mastodon closed their set with “Supernaut,” and Gojira performed “Under The Sun / Every Day Comes And Goes,” with Joe Duplantier wielding a Gibson SG in honor of Tony Iommi. At the MTV Video Music Awards in September, Yungblud joined Nuno Bettencourt, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry for a three-song medley of “Crazy Train,” “Changes,” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

Later, at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2026, a heavy in memoriam segment featured Slash, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, Andrew Watt, and Post Malone delivering a rendition of “War Pigs.” Yungblud also won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance for his rendition of “Changes” recorded at Back To The Beginning.

Posthumous projects have further kept Osbourne’s memory front and center. His memoir, Last Rites, arrived in October 2025, detailing his health battles, Parkinson’s struggles, and the heart condition discovered in his final days. The documentary Ozzy: No Escape From Now also documented his final years and work ethic. Additionally, Judas Priest released a duet with Ozzy on a version of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” which frontman Rob Halford called a deeply special milestone.

In Birmingham, the free-to-enter Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero exhibit at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery was extended multiple times, running through September 27, 2026, and recently adding the performance throne from his final concert. Meanwhile, a fan-led petition launched by podcaster Dan Hudson to rename Birmingham Airport after the singer garnered 77,000 signatures and family endorsement, though airport CEO Nick Barton ruled out the name change.

There Will Never Be Another Ozzy

Marking the one-year anniversary, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi shared on Instagram that he still watches footage of Ozzy on YouTube. “We always stayed in touch, almost every week or so, and we’d usually talk about our ailments and then about what we’d been doing that particular week,” Iommi wrote. “There will never be another Ozzy. I miss you, my dear friend.”

Sharon Osbourne also reflected on the milestone, revealing that Ozzy had knowingly faced his final days head-on before the performance, stating, “Whether I die in two weeks or I die in six months, I’m still dying. And I wanna go my way.”
