Queen Preview Final Concert Movie With Stunning 4K Budapest Trailer
Queen has shared a new 100-second trailer in 4K for the upcoming 40th anniversary release of their final concert movie, Queen: Budapest. Captured by 17 cameras during the band’s historic visit to the Soviet Union, the film marks the momentous occasion when a Western rock band delivered a stadium event behind the Iron Curtain.
Inside the Remastered 1986 Concert Film
The newly unveiled preview offers glimpses of both onstage performances and offstage moments filmed on and around July 27, 1986. Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production handled the restoration work, bringing the visual archive up to pristine 4K quality while the audio was carefully rebuilt from the original multitrack tapes.
Guitarist Brian May reflected on the profound significance of the original trek when the anniversary edition was first announced. “It’s going to be definitively the most real experience ever of us, Queen, in our glory days,” May said. “I think people will get lost in it and even forget they’re watching a film.”
May also touched on the cultural isolation faced by local fans at the time, noting that audiences behind the Iron Curtain previously relied on illegal cassettes to hear the band’s music. “It was a forbidden thing to listen to rock bands like us, so to see them play in a live show would have been unthinkable,” he noted.
“This concert, when they could finally come and see us live in person and interact with us, was a huge emotional moment for them and also for us,” May added. “It felt like a very big deal – you could feel that incredible energy. There will never be an event quite like that again.”
Theatrical and Physical Release Details
Queen: Budapest is scheduled to arrive in select movie theaters and IMAX venues on Oct. 7. Following the theatrical run, a broader general release hits shelves and digital platforms on Oct. 30 across Blu-ray, DVD, triple-vinyl, and double-CD formats.
