The Doors Guitarist Robby Krieger Announces Death of Wife Lynn
The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger has shared the heartbreaking news that his wife, Lynn Ann Veres, has passed away. The 80-year-old musician posted the announcement on The Doors’ official Instagram account, noting that she died peacefully on October 29th, a month before their 54th wedding anniversary.
“I am so sorry I can’t share this news in person,” Krieger wrote in the statement. “After more than fifty years of love and marriage, my wife Lynn Ann Veres passed away peacefully last night, Oct. 29th. Waylon and I were with her until the end. Will miss her so much.” He also thanked well-wishers for their support, adding that thoughts and prayers are appreciated during the difficult time.
A Life Together and ‘Love Her Madly’
According to TMZ, paramedics were called to the couple’s Beverly Hills home just before noon on October 29th, though Lynn had already passed away by the time personnel arrived. While no official cause of death was shared, it was alleged that she had been battling a longtime illness.
The couple’s history stretches back to the height of The Doors’ fame. Krieger and Veres met in 1967 at a New York City nightclub. Though Lynn initially dated frontman Jim Morrison, Krieger took a liking to her after she moved to Los Angeles. They eventually married on Christmas Day in 1972.
Veres notably inspired The Doors’ hit “Love Her Madly,” which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Krieger explained in an LA Weekly retrospective that the track drew from the ups and downs of their early relationship, recalling her bad temper and how she would slam the door. In his 2021 memoir, Set the Night on Fire, Krieger reflected on her spirit: “She’s the only person I’ve ever met who lets me be me, and that’s why I’ll always love her.”
