The Rolling Stones Surprise-Release New Single ‘Who You Callin’ Crazy?’
The Rolling Stones have returned with a brand new single, titled ‘Who You Callin’ Crazy?’ The track arrived as a surprise release hot on the heels of news surrounding a forthcoming expanded project.
Foreign Tongues Deluxe and Unreleased Tracks
The new single arrives following the announcement of a deluxe edition of the band’s chart-topping record Foreign Tongues. Titled Foreign Tongues, Loose Lips, the expanded release is slated to drop on November 27th via Polydor and Universal Music.
‘Who You Calling Crazy?’ is one of five previously unreleased tracks featured on the special edition. Other unreleased cuts joining it on the tracklist include:
- ‘Where There’s A Will’
- ‘Human Tide’
- ‘She Still Comes Around’
- ‘Bad Luck Hideaway’
Notably, ‘Bad Luck Hideaway’ features a duet between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, backed by the late Charlie Watts on drums.
Radio Premiere and Lyrical Details
‘Who You Callin’ Crazy?’ made its world premiere on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 show on October 20th. To mark the occasion, Mick Jagger sent a personal voice note to the host. “Hi Vernon, it’s Mick here,” Jagger said in the clip. “I’m excited for you to press play for the first time on ‘Who You Callin’ Crazy?’ on BBC Radio 2. It’s The Rolling Stones’ new single, so I hope you like it. Bye!”
Lyrically, the track leans into tense, theatrical observations. On the opening verse, Jagger sings, “If I look nervous about to collapse, If I’m squirming like a rat in a trap, I keep blinking my nose starts to twitch, I keep scratching but nowhere to itch, Hey don’t like your sideways glance, Don’t want to live in your gothic romance.” That tension boils over into the chorus, where he screams, “Who you callin’ crazy? I wanna know who you callin’ crazy, And what about you? You call yourself a lady.”
Saxophonist Courtney Pine Joins the Studio Sessions
Credits for the track reveal a guest appearance from saxophonist Courtney Pine. Pine recently shed light on his time working in the studio alongside Jagger on material for the Stones.
“I’ve just done another session a couple of weeks ago with him (Mick Jagger) for The Rolling Stones,” Pine shared, highlighting the creative crossover. “Mick’s an amazing artist. That whole pop world is completely different to anything that I know.”
