Tony Iommi Admits Upcoming Black Sabbath Concert Film Is ‘Difficult to Watch’
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has opened up about the emotional toll of reviewing the band’s upcoming concert film, Back to the Beginning. Set for release on October 28th, 2026, the film captures the band’s historic final concert at Villa Park in Birmingham in July 2025, weeks before Ozzy Osbourne’s death.
The landmark event saw Osbourne perform a solo set before reuniting with the original Black Sabbath lineup for the first time in more than 20 years. The monumental show featured guest performances from rock and metal heavyweights including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Gojira, and Tool.
An Emotional Screening Process
Speaking about watching the captured footage ahead of its arrival in cinemas later this month, Iommi admitted that the experience has been far from easy. “I’ve watched the footage and it’s emotional,” he shared. “I’ve watched it only twice now. I find it difficult to watch it, to be honest, because, obviously, of our relationship with each other.”
Despite the personal difficulty of sitting through the screenings, the legendary guitarist expressed confidence that fans will appreciate the final product, adding, “But I’m sure people will like it.”
