Sean Ono Lennon Welcomes First Child Aurelius

Sean Ono Lennon and his partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, have announced the birth of their baby boy, Aurelius. The couple shared the happy news on social media on September 1st, posting a photo alongside their newborn son.

In the caption accompanying the post, Sean wrote that the pair had “created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!” Additional photos shared by Sean showed him and Kemp Muhl holding their son, with Sean captioning one image simply with “Baby Momma!”

A Historic Family Milestone

The arrival of Aurelius marks the first grandchild for legendary Beatle John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono. Yoko Ono, who is 93 years old, lives a quiet life on her farm in upstate New York after officially stepping back from public life. John Lennon was tragically killed on December 8th, 1980, outside his New York City apartment building, meaning he will never meet his grandson.

The birth follows a busy touring schedule for Sean, who spent May, June, and July on the road extensively with Les Claypool. While carving out his own musical career, Sean has also embraced a deeply personal role as the custodian of his family’s artistic history.

Protecting a Musical Legacy

In December 2025, Sean spoke to CBS Sunday Morning about his position as a caretaker for the Beatles and his parents’ legacies. He explained that while the world acts as a custodian for his father’s work, he is doing his best to ensure younger generations do not forget the contributions of the Beatles, John, and Yoko.

“My parents gave me so much that I think it’s the least I can do to try and support their legacy in my lifetime,” Sean told CBS. “I feel like I just owe it to them. It’s a personal thing.”

The family connection to fatherhood and music spans generations. In 1980, John Lennon and Yoko Ono released their joint album Double Fantasy just prior to John’s death. The record features the track “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy),” written for Sean when he was a child, featuring reflections on parenthood and watching his son grow up.
