Roger Taylor Confirms No New Queen Music With Adam Lambert
Queen drummer Roger Taylor has provided an update on the status of the band’s musical partnership with Adam Lambert, confirming that fans should not expect any original recorded material from the lineup.
Speaking in a recent interview, Taylor reflected on touring with the former American Idol contestant following their initial hookup after his season 8 appearance in 2009 and their first full tour in 2012. While Taylor praised Lambert’s vocal abilities and performance style, noting that he “never tried to be Freddie [Mercury],” he admitted that their attempts to record original tracks ultimately stalled.
Why New Queen Songs With Adam Lambert Never Happened
Rumors regarding new studio recordings featuring Taylor, Lambert, and guitarist Brian May circulated for years, but nothing ever reached completion. Taylor expressed regret over the unreleased material, explaining that scheduling and divergent paths brought the studio sessions to a halt.
“We never really finished anything with Adam, which is to my regret, because I am a huge admirer of his voice,” Taylor said. “I think we could have done good stuff, but he’s doing lots of other things, and it didn’t really work out in the end.”
Taylor added that Lambert is currently on a “slightly different path,” though he left the door open for potential future live outings, stating he “wouldn’t close the door” on touring together again down the line.
Brian May Clarifies Touring Future

The update on studio work follows recent discussions surrounding Queen’s live schedule. Guitarist Brian May previously addressed comments regarding the band’s touring future after remarking that he had decided not to tour again. May subsequently clarified those remarks on social media, writing that it was a misinterpretation and emphasizing, “I have actually never said Queen won’t ever tour again. I could never say never.”
Meanwhile, Taylor has turned his focus back to his solo output, releasing his seventh studio album, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World.
