Joan Jett Cancels Shows After Surgery for Fractured Vertebra

Joan Jett has hit the pause button on her live schedule to recover from a medical procedure. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s team announced that she has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebra following a recent injury.

The medical intervention necessitates a period of physical therapy and recuperation. Consequently, Jett and her longtime band, the Blackhearts, have pulled out of two high-profile September appearances.

Canceled September Appearances

The cancellations affect two scheduled performances on the calendar:

Costa Mesa, CA at the Orange County Fair on September 5th
Louisville, KY at the Bourbon and Beyond Festival on September 24th

Jett’s team shared that while the singer hates to disappoint her fans, she is prioritizing the necessary healing process. The statement added that she is looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.

Looking Ahead at Releases and the Road

Despite the interruption to her live schedule, Jett’s upcoming release plans remain on track. An expanded 45th-anniversary edition of I Love Rock ‘N Roll is slated for release on August 28th across CD and vinyl formats.

Jett’s touring schedule earlier this year included a trek through New Zealand, a Las Vegas residency, and festival stops like Beachlife and Bottlerock in California. She also completed a UK tour in July that featured stops in Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Wolverhampton, and London, followed by a performance in Belgium on July 10th.

Following the release of their chart-topping album Foreign Tongues, The Rolling Stones are reportedly evaluating new formats for future live performances. While the legendary rockers have no immediate tour plans, guitarist Keith Richards has suggested the band is considering moving away from the rigors of traditional multi-city tours in favor of residency-style engagements.

Speaking with Billboard, Richards confirmed that the band is currently weighing their options. “I don’t see anything this year, I can’t rush it that much, but I see no reason why next year, good Lord willing, we shouldn’t be able to… maybe a residency, something,” Richards said. He noted that the travel demands associated with classic touring have become increasingly taxing, adding, “Bring the road to us. That’s my suggestion.”

Richards previously touched upon the logistics of such a move in an interview with Uncut, emphasizing that the band remains open to performing in cities like London, Paris, or New York, provided the format changes. The shift toward stationary residencies has become a significant trend in the music industry recently, with acts such as U2, the Eagles, Phish, and Metallica utilizing state-of-the-art venues like the Las Vegas Sphere, while other artists have opted for extended stays in historic theaters.

The Rolling Stones recently celebrated a milestone with Foreign Tongues, which secured the band their 15th UK Number 1 album. As one of the longest-running groups in rock history, the Stones have managed to maintain their career for over six decades without a formal breakup, despite the typical challenges of longevity that often cause other major acts to dissolve. While specific dates or locations have yet to be determined, Richards’ recent comments suggest that the band is actively looking for a sustainable way to bring their performances to fans as they continue their historic career.
