Deep Purple Postpone German Shows After Ian Gillan Hospitalized
Deep Purple have announced the postponement of two upcoming concerts in Germany after frontman Ian Gillan suffered a medical emergency. The hard rock legends were scheduled to perform at the QI Arena in Leipzig and the Sporthalle in Hamburg.
According to an official press release issued by the group, Gillan is currently receiving care in the hospital. The band stated they sincerely apologize for the short notice and share the disappointment of fans who were looking forward to the performances.
Rescheduling and Ticket Details
The band confirmed that the affected dates will be rescheduled rather than canceled outright. Tickets purchased for the original dates will remain valid for the new performances.
However, the group’s team has not yet indicated when the rescheduled dates will take place or when a follow-up announcement regarding the new schedule will be made. The band expressed gratitude to their supporters, asking for understanding, patience, and continued support during the situation.
Upcoming Tour Plans and Recent Comments
As of the current announcement, Deep Purple’s schedule still lists a string of UK arena dates slated for November. The run is scheduled to kick off in Newcastle on November 18th and hit Glasgow, Birmingham, and Manchester before concluding at the Eventim Apollo in London on November 24th. Rising UK rock band Jayler are set to support across all five dates, with Mammoth—fronted by Wolfgang Van Halen—joining the bill for the first four stops.
The health update follows recent reflections from the band regarding their future on the road. Last year, Gillan shared that his eyesight has deteriorated to 30 percent and will not improve, noting it is just one of those things to navigate. Despite retirement coming into view, bassist Roger Glover stated earlier this year that the band has no intention of staging a formal farewell tour, preferring to keep playing until they can no longer continue.
