Steven Tyler Pushes Back Against Aerosmith Retirement Rumors
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has pushed back against speculation that the band’s touring days are finished. The remarks came during the group’s Hollywood Bowl concert.
The shows marked Aerosmith’s return to the stage after a hiatus of over three years. The band played a shortened headlining set following a lineup of guest performers including Heart and Guns N’ Roses.
Bill Burr’s Retirement Announcement
Confusion over the band’s future began during the concert. Comedian Bill Burr, serving as the master of ceremonies for the event, welcomed the crowd by declaring that the evening would be the “final two shows in Aerosmith’s history.” The announcement quickly circulated online, causing concern among fans.
Tyler addressed the claim directly during the performance. “So Bill Burr said these are our final shows, huh?” Tyler told the Hollywood Bowl crowd. “Doesn’t he know that you can’t get rid of Aerosmith? In fact, at the end of the f—ing world, there will only be cockroaches, Aerosmith and I guess, Bill Burr!”
Tyler also joked about the comedian, referring to him as “Boston’s own Charlie Brown with a bad-ass attitude.”
Mixed Signals on the Band’s Future
Despite Tyler’s pushback against Burr’s remarks, the frontman delivered a closing speech that hinted at the end of an era. “Before we say goodnight, I just want to say what a ride it has been with my brothers. 55 years, you guys, 55 years,” Tyler said at the end of the show.
Guitarist Joe Perry did not address the band’s future during his final remarks from the stage. Instead, Perry thanked the guest musicians who joined the bill, adding self-deprecatingly, “A lot better than we ever did.”
The return to the stage follows a difficult period for Tyler, who sustained vocal cord damage that forced the band to abandon their farewell tour after their September 9, 2023 performance in New York.
