Bruce Springsteen Backs Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan Senate Race
Bruce Springsteen has thrown his support behind Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race.
Taking to social media, The Boss shared a strong statement in favor of the epidemiologist and local public health official. “Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution, he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless, and anti-American leadership currently in the White House,” Springsteen wrote. “That’s why I’m in his corner 100%.”
The Michigan Senate Race
El-Sayed is facing off against former Republican House Representative Mike Rogers in the election.
The race has seen unexpected political turns.
Democratic Representative Haley Stevens announced an endorsement of Rogers.
This move shocked members of her own staff and party after she previously bashed him as a rubber stamp for the Trump administration.
El-Sayed’s campaign dismissed the endorsement.
Speaking to reporters, El-Sayed emphasized everyday struggles.
He noted that families are worried about sending their kids to underfunded schools, putting food on the table, and paying medical bills.
Springsteen’s endorsement arrives amid a long history of political outspokenness from the rocker.
He earlier this year released the protest anthem “Streets of Minneapolis” following ICE’s immigration crackdown in the city.
