Neil Young, David Bowie, and Phil Collins Lead a Packed September 2026 Rock Release Schedule
Classic rock fans are facing a heavily reissue-packed month, though a handful of notable new studio offerings will also land. Neil Young leads the charge alongside the Chrome Hearts with Second Song, following up last year’s Talkin to the Trees. Meanwhile, Young’s 1975 LP Tonight’s the Night—the final entry in his so-called “Ditch Trilogy”—receives a fresh multi-format reissue.
New Studio Material and Major Reissues

Alongside Young’s catalog updates, pending new studio releases include Europe’s Come This Madness and Anthrax’s Cursum Perficio. However, the month is heavily driven by archival releases, box sets, and anniversary editions.
David Bowie is represented by archival material dating prior to his 1967 self-titled debut, featuring 21 tracks recorded with Shel Talmy, producer of the Who and the Kinks. The Mothers of Invention’s Freak Out!—which served as Frank Zappa’s debut—celebrates its 60th anniversary with a super-deluxe edition spanning five CDs and a Blu-ray.
Expanded Anniversary Sets and Live Boxes
Phil Collins’ debut solo album is rebranded as Face Value (Full Value), expanding into a four-LP 45th-anniversary set accompanied by a standalone Blu-ray featuring new mixes. Bob Seger’s 2006 comeback album Face the Promise—which marked his first new record in a decade—gets an expanded anniversary reissue loaded with four bonus tracks.
On the live and archival front, Joy Division delivers Eternal (Live), a massive box set featuring 16 performances across 14 discs. Progressive rock fans can also look forward to Mainstream from Quiet Sun, a side project featuring Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera.
