Journey Confirms 2027 Stagecoach Appearance

Journey has officially expanded their touring horizon, confirming their first concert booking for 2027. The band is set to perform on Saturday, April 24, at the Stagecoach festival in the Coachella Valley. While the annual event bills itself as “California’s Country Music Festival,” its rangy lineup makes room for several rock acts, including David Lee Roth, Matchbox Twenty, Melissa Etheridge, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

The new booking arrives after Journey previously indicated that a late-November appearance in their hometown of San Francisco would serve as the final stop on the current run of their Final Frontier Tour. General passes and VIP packages for the Stagecoach festival go on sale on Friday at 2PM ET / 11AM PT, following an AMEX presale beginning Tuesday.

Lineup Questions Surrounding Journey

Stagecoach’s official site features a band photo of Journey’s current lineup, which has been together since 2021. Co-founder Neal Schon is joined by longtime members Jonathan Cain, Arnel Pineda, and Deen Castronovo, alongside newer additions Todd Jensen and Jason Derlatka. However, it remains unclear if all members will appear at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

The band’s recent history has been marked by various internal shifts and announcements. Two separate announcements earlier in the year brought Journey’s total concert count to 100 in North America. Jonathan Cain’s eventual departure had already been announced, with his tenure stretching back to 1981’s blockbuster Escape. Meanwhile, the band scheduled several warm-up concerts ahead of their second tour leg, including two in Japan and three in Hawaii.

Recent Vocal Shifts and International Guest Appearances

Journey’s Final Frontier dates kicked off in February. Frontman Arnel Pineda subsequently admitted he tried to walk away twice before things began, citing vocal issues and an ongoing divorce. Pineda ultimately took the stage because Journey’s contract with touring company AEG specifically stated that they could only move forward with Pineda, according to Schon.

The current lineup of Journey has been together for five years.

As Schon’s longest-lasting frontman occasionally struggled with lengthy shows and tours, bandmates Cain, Castronovo, and Derlatka began taking on larger vocal roles. Concurrently, Schon remained cagey about his own future plans while initiating the process to trademark an offshoot band.

The situation further evolved when Journey brought out veteran tribute singer Hugo Valenti on August 29 in Fukuoka, Japan, and September 1 in Tokyo. The appearance prompted a social media comment from Pineda, who wrote, “That’s the band right there. Now, I can step back.” Adding to the shifting configurations, Schon has also made a couple of appearances alongside only Castronovo, Derlatka, and Jensen, with Castronovo handling lead vocals on “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Separate Ways.”
