Paul McCartney Becomes Britain’s First Billionaire Musician
At age 81, Beatles legend Paul McCartney is estimated to be worth 1 billion pounds or $1.27 billion
Paul McCartney, the iconic musician and founding member of The Beatles, has reached a significant milestone, becoming Britain’s first billionaire musician. The revelation surfaced in the latest edition of The Sunday Times’ annual Rich List, showcasing McCartney’s enduring influence and financial prowess.
McCartney, aged 81, and his wife Nancy, are now valued at an impressive £1 billion ($1.3 billion), marking a notable increase from the previous year’s £950 million ($1.2 billion). McCartney’s revenue surged following his 2023 Got Back tour and Beyoncé’s rendition of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” on her “Cowboy Carter” album, as reported by the outlet.
The Sunday Times attributes £50 million of the couple’s net worth to Nancy, the daughter of the late U.S. trucking tycoon Mike Shevell.
In 2020, Forbes ranked McCartney among the world’s highest-earning celebrities, placing him at 91 alongside Oprah Winfrey, boxer Canelo Alvarez, and NBA player Damian Lillard. According to Forbes, McCartney earned $37 million in 2019 and grossed over $100 million from solo shows during that period.
McCartney rose to fame in the 1960s as a member of The Beatles, alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The band, active for only eight years, released 12 studio albums, featuring hits like “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” and “Yesterday.”
McCartney’s discography spans 18 studio albums, with his latest release, “McCartney III,” hitting shelves in 2020.
Apart from album sales and performances, McCartney owns MPL Communications, founded in 1969. The music publishing company controls the rights to over 25,000 songs, including works by Buddy Holly, Fats Waller, and Bessie Smith, as reported by Billboard.
McCartney ranks 165th among the U.K.’s 350 wealthiest individuals, according to The Sunday Times. Topping the list is Gopi Hinduja and his family, with an estimated net worth of about £37 billion.
The Rich List also features other prominent figures like Elton John, valued at £470 million, and King Charles, with an estimated net worth of £610 million, as per the outlet’s data.
