Neil Peart Documentary No One's Disciple Trailer Released

A new trailer has been released for Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple, an upcoming documentary exploring the life and legacy of the late Rush drummer. The two-minute-and-12-second preview arrives ahead of the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 16, followed by a Canadian broadcast debut on Sept. 23 via the CBC.

All-Star Tributes and Rare Insights

Directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn—the filmmakers behind acclaimed music docs like Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage—the film examines Peart’s time in the spotlight as well as his personal life, touching on the losses of his first wife and daughter in the late ’90s.

According to description details from TIFF and the CBC, the documentary features Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson teaming up with a roster of revered guest drummers—including Tool’s Danny Carey, The Police’s Stewart Copeland, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, and Porcupine Tree’s Gavin Harrison—for live performances of Rush classics.

In the newly released trailer, guitarist Alex Lifeson recalls early impressions of joining forces with the legendary percussionist, noting, “I remember thinking there’s no way this guy is cool enough to be in our band.” Peart joined Rush in 1974 shortly after original drummer John Rutsey departed.

Rush on the Road

The documentary’s release coincides with Lee and Lifeson’s ongoing Fifty Something tour. Following Peart’s passing in 2020, the duo initially stated they would not perform as Rush again out of respect for their longtime bandmate. However, after receiving blessings from Peart’s family, they hit the road with drummer Anika Nilles for a massive reunion tour stretching through April 2027.
